Nintendo released a new limited edition of Mario 3D all stars in September 2020. It's a compilation bundle of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Sunshine. The combination is dedicated to offering early gamers a nostalgic experience while still allowing the new gamers to have fun. The limited-edition sales of Super Mario 3D all Stars were scheduled to end on March 31st, 2020, but it is still being restocked in stores.

Nintendo announced that fans who bought the game before the deadline can still download it from their store even when they deleted it. However, the physical copies of the game would be axed from the stores. Also, all the merchandise related to the game was supposed to be removed. The reason behind this decision is still unclear.

Super Mario All-Stars has popularized the notion that older games can be improved using new technology and still manage to preserve their original content. The good old games should not just lie in their original hardware that doesn't work anymore.

Where to get Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Although Nintendo announced that it would discontinue the game's sales on March 31st, it's still in circulation. It seems like the retailers will keep getting refills of the physical version; hence scalpers won't raise prices - if you are buying on Amazon via 3rd party Merchant, check whether their price matches the standard price of $59.99.
You can get the game in the following stores.

*Prices listed as of 8/30/2021

What has changed?

Other companies prove the value by changing the gameplay of old games while preserving the artifacts. But Nintendo has only done just the basics to ensure that the games run on new hardware. Let us look at a few things that have changed.

The Controls
The in-game instructions and the user interface for the three games have been updated to the new switch control. For instance, press start has been changed to press +. A pause menu has also been included to help switch the three games easily and also act as a quick reference for the controls. The older Nintendo Control schemes have also been updated to work with the switch pro controller and Joy-Cons.

Rose-colored Glasses
Although the gameplay is the same as the original counterparts, Nintendo has added an improved picture resolution. This change can be noticed easily in the Super Mario 64 game. For example, the original pixelated graphics have been changed to look good on the HD displays. The environmental texture remains unchanged even for the high-resolution screens. That's why you will notice the fields of rocky mountains and grass appear like smeared muddy messes.

Final Thoughts
If you want to enjoy the best of the Super Mario platformer games of the 90, then this is your chance. Super Mario All-stars emulates Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Sunshine into one game that can be played on modern hardware. Nintendo has managed to preserve the originality of these games by only tweaking a few elements, such as the controls. The sales of the digital version have been suspended but it appears physical copies are still available.
