Fortnite New Impostors Mode Frustrates Among Us Devs

Fortnite imposter mode announcement displaying one suspicious crew member holding an orb behind his back as two other crewmembers point at each other accusingly.

Fortnite recently introduced an Impostors mode that shares similar mechanics with Among us. So many aspects of the new Fortnite mode are the same as Among us which has left everyone talking. Over the years Fortnite has worked with Star Wars, DC, Marvel, and artists such as Travis Scott and Ariana Grande. But this time they didn’t ask for anyone’s permission, they just went straight ahead to copy and paste Innersloth ideas.

Although Among Us has not patented its game mechanics, the devs and fans view this kind of competition as bad for the industry. The worst part is that InnerSloth has been trying to work with Fortnite in the past without success. Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite have not said anything concerning this issue yet.

The Innersloth developers are not pleased with this move. Some expressed their feelings on social media. Victoria Tran, Director at AmongUs says that it could have been great to collaborate buts it’s just sad they copied everything. She showed more concern in a different tweet, saying that it feels powerless like being a woman in tech. Victoria further expressed her feelings by asking "lol what's the point anymore of making our own stories/content”. Let us look at some of the similarities that the Among us Developers have highlighted.

Fornite and Among Us impostors mode similarities

Terminologies
Fornite is using many terminologies same as the Among Us. Starting with the name impostors mode. Victoria Tran thinks it’s fine they used the same game mechanics but they could have used different terminologies and themes.
Themes
Fortnite had initially chosen 12 primary colors exactly the same as Among us. They could have chosen many other different colors but they chose exact same codes like two greens and two blues. However, they later scrapped these colors but still, there are many aspects of the themes similar to Among us.
The map
Gary Porter a programmer at Innersloth says he is offended by the way Epic games copied even the map. He points out that the room scales are different but the map layout is identical.
Gameplay
10 players participate in Fortnite impostors mode. Eight of them are agents while the remaining two are impostors. Just like in Among Us, the impostors try to sabotage the mission and eliminate players carrying routine assignments. Besides, impostors can cover their tracks by teleporting players.

In Fortnite, the agents can hold a meeting by interacting with the panel or reporting an eliminated agent. Both the impostors and agents can share information using a quick chat menu and emotes. This is where they can ask contextual questions to find the impostor. The impostors and agents can vote to eject someone at the end of the discussion.

Final Thoughts

The Fortnite new impostors' mode has frustrated the Among us devs and fans. Instead of collaborating, they went ahead to copy everything. AmongUs has been trying to collaborate with Fortnite without success for a long time. It seems epic games are trying to take advantage of the mechanics that have led to the success of Among Us in the past year. But they could have done it in a better way by involving the Innersloth devs.
